Designed by Alan Donovan, founder of the African Heritage galleries, the house is a combination of architectural styles from across the continent. The interiors are just as fascinating, decorated with crafts, weaponry, textiles, art and wood from various parts of Africa. |
Besides it’s vast collection of original works of art and tribal sculptures from all parts of Africa, the African Heritage House features authentic artifacts from the peoples of Kenya. There are more than 6 lines of jewelry including "Africa Adorned" by Angela Fisher, whose book of the same name is the most famous book on African body ornament. There are also hand-painted beads by the late Lady Susan Wood whose Kazuri Beads has its major outlet here.
There is a wide range of home items from the tabletop items to Christmas tree ornaments. African Heritage is a pioneer in developing Kenyan soapstone which is hand-crafted and incised in African textile designs and other themes.
The house is available for tours, meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinners on the rooftop or by the refreshing pool), conferences/functions, as well as overnight stays in its luxurious rooms, filled with African art and furnishings with modern appointments. Performances by Kenya's African Heritage Festival, hostesses, models, musicians, etc. may be arranged. Transport by Kenya Railways Steam Train (train stop at the house) can be arranged. Optional transport by helicopter is also available.
